Wenonah Special Education
LNCS – Wenonah Special Education Team
The LNCS–Wenonah Special Education Team works collaboratively to support students with a wide range of unique learning needs across both large and small group settings throughout the school day. Our goal is to help students and families fully access the school environment, reach each child’s individual goals, and build a positive, inclusive, and supportive school community for all.

School Social Worker
Hi! I’m Jennifer Frisbie (Ms. Frisbie), and this is my 16th year as Wenonah’s Social Worker. I love supporting students and families as they navigate school, and I’m always here to help—please feel free to reach out anytime!
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, and walking along the beautiful lakes of Minneapolis or hiking on the North Shore.
I’m so glad to be part of the Wenonah community and look forward to another wonderful year together!

School Psychologist
Hi! I’m Joseph Schantz (Mr. Joe), and I’m excited to be the School Psychologist at LNCS Wenonah (Tuesdays). I also support students and staff at LNCS Keewaydin and Lyndale Elementary. I love helping students and families navigate the special education process and working with educators to meet the diverse needs of their learners.
Outside of school, I enjoy camping, rowing, yoga, and cycling around town with my dog, Mack.

Special Education Resource Teacher (SERT)
Hello! My name is Leah Wright (Ms. Leah), and I’m the Special Education Resource Teacher (SERT) at Wenonah Public School. I’m also proud to be part of the team supporting our ASD classroom. In my role, I work with students who may need extra support in areas such as literacy, math, friendship skills, self-regulation, and navigating the many aspects of school life.
Outside of school, I love to read mysteries, bake cookies, listen to music, watch hockey, and spend time with my family and our dog, Sparkie.
I’m excited to continue helping all of our students learn, grow, and feel connected at school!

Special Education Teacher (ASD)
Hi! My name is Kathryn Enlund (Ms. Kathryn), and I’m a Special Education Teacher at Wenonah, where I job share with Ms. Leah in the ASD classroom. In our classroom, we focus on literacy, math, writing, functional, and social skills to help each student grow and thrive.
Outside of school, my family and I love to camp and spend time outdoors.

Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)
Hi! I’m Jessica Hamilton (Ms. Jessica), and I’m the part-time Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) at LNCS Wenonah. I’ve been with Minneapolis Public Schools since 2007, and I’m also a proud MPS parent—my 8-year-old son attends an MPS school!
In my role, I support student communication skills, which may include work in articulation, language, stuttering, or voice development. At Wenonah, our staff strives to support all learners—whether that’s through picture symbols, combining words, gestures, or using speech applications.
Outside of school, I love outdoor adventures like camping and spending time in nature.
I’m excited to continue helping all of our students learn, grow, and thrive!

Developmental Adapted Physical Therapy (DAPE)
Hi! My name is Sara Sykes, and I’m the Developmental Adapted Physical Education (DAPE) teacher. This is my 5th year at Wenonah Elementary School, and I also support students at Lyndale, Field, and Barton.
As a DAPE teacher, I work with students to support their gross motor development—skills like throwing, catching, running, and more. I’ve been part of the district for 15 years, and I truly love working with our amazing kiddos!
Outside of school, I’m a busy mom to two daughters (ages 11 and 9) who are both very active in sports. When I’m not cheering them on or driving to practices, I enjoy running myself—I’ve completed 30 marathons so far!

Occupational Therapist (OT)
Hi! My name is Steve Jerve-Boraas (Mr. Steve), and I’m excited to begin my second year as the Occupational Therapist (OT) at Wenonah and Keewaydin. In my role, I help students learn about their sensory systems, build self-regulation skills, and strengthen their fine motor abilities.
Outside of school, I love working with wood, listening to audiobooks, and running around Lake Nokomis with my two adorable kids.
I’m excited to continue helping all of our students learn, grow, and thrive!
Special Education Assistant (SEA)
At Wenonah, we’re fortunate to have three amazing Special Education Assistants — Mr. Karl, Mr. Billie, and Mr. John!
Under general supervision, they provide a variety of supports to help students with special needs succeed in the learning environment. They work closely with staff to develop and implement individualized lessons and activities, and they help students work toward their therapy and educational goals.
Their care, patience, and dedication make a huge difference in the lives of our students every day!
Mr Karl
Hi! My name is Karl Bonde, and I live in Minneapolis with my wife and three kids (ages 10, 7, and 3). I love playing and watching sports, especially soccer and basketball. When I’m not on the field or court, I enjoy taking care of our backyard chickens and going for hikes with my family.

Mr. Billie
Hi! I’m Billie Yang, and I’ve been a Special Education Assistant at Wenonah for the past eight years. I like to think I’m fun — the students think I’m funny — but honestly, I’m probably not that fun or funny to be around!
I’m looking forward to another great school year and seeing all the amazing things we can accomplish together. Also, I’m known for my fanny pack full of wonders — and yes, the kids absolutely love it!

Mr. John
Hi! My name is John Hermanstorfer, and I’m one of the Special Education Assistants at Wenonah. I work with our kindergarten and first-grade students, supporting them in both general education and special education classrooms throughout the school day.
I love being part of the Wenonah community and helping our youngest learners grow, learn, and shine!
